  • A fold with a core of stratigraphically younger rocks (Dennis, 1967).

  • Synclines are usually concave upward but defined only by the stratigraphic sequence. Note that in areas were pre-existing folds are refolded exceptions may occur (e.g. anticlinal synforms).
