SCOPE NOTE
  • A piece of metal with a hole or holes drilled in it to take the rivets after they were passed through the catchplate and the cover or clasp strap under it to hold them together. Rivet plates are therefore normally found on the inside of covers or clasp straps, where they could not be seen when the book is closed.
