  • Actual lists of reference books are entered under the appropriate headings with subdivision Bibliography. If limited to a particular subject area additional entry is made under the heading for the topic with subdivision Bibliography, e.g.: 1. Reference books--Canada--Bibliography. 2. Canada--Bibliography; 1. Reference books--Canadian literature (French)--Bibliography. 2. Reference books, French--Bibliography. 3. Canadian literature (French)--Bibliography.
  • Here are entered works discussing collectively reference books such as encyclopedias and dictionaries, atlases, bibliographies, directories, handbooks, yearbooks, etc., in various languages or in English only. Such works on reference books in a language other than English are entered under this heading qualified by the language, e.g. Reference books, French.
  • Individual reference books are entered under appropriate form headings, e.g. Decorative arts--Canada--Directories; Canada--History--Indexes; Canadian literature--Dictionaries.
  • Works discussing English language reference books limited to a particular subject area are entered under this heading subdivided by the topic, e.g. Reference books--Canada; Reference books--Canadian literature (French). Such works discussing reference books in a language other than English, when limited to a subject area are in addition also entered under the heading Reference books qualified by the language, e.g.: 1. Reference books--Canada. 2. Reference books, French. 1. Reference books--Canadian literature (French) 2. Reference books, French.
