SCOPE NOTE
  • A small but seaworthy vessel designed for the rescue of downed aircrew, often under wartime conditions. The smaller types were high-speed planing craft, and normally termed Rescue Launches; the larger types were slower and had secondary functions as range control and target towing vessels.
